News Round- Up

Dear Parents and Carers
The new year has begun well and children and new staff are settling in. We appreciate that many of our children will be learning new routines and new expectations. Your child’s class teacher will be working hard to establish systems for the class and we would appreciate your support in allowing things to settle. All teachers are aware of the need to accelerate learning as a result of the pandemic and school closure. Plans are in place, are regularly reviewed and adapted for the children. We are using government catch-up funding to provide support in reading, writing and maths whilst holding on to our belief that children learn best when they are happy.
Our work on school values in the summer term helps us remember what we are striving for. Our revised Mission and Vision statements provide the framework for our Tetherdown Journey for the next three years underpinned by a new strategic plan:
Mission statement
(our long term goal)

Where happy children are inspired to be the best they can be.

Vision Statement
(our route planner)
|
- Together, we nurture caring and socially responsible children, ready to be active global citizens;
- Together, we create innovative opportunities where children and staff develop a love of learning and their imagination is fired;
- Together, we empower our children to become successful, independent and ambitious about learning;
- In the endeavour that our children will leave having reached their full potential, prepared for a world of possibilities.

Values
(tools for the journey and for life)

We will be working with staff, governors, children and parents to bring this work to life through our School Development Plan 2021-22, details of which will be shared over the coming weeks. Our priorities will be based on:
- Improving standards in writing
- Improving knowledge and skills in the humanities subjects (history, geography and R.E.)
- Supporting children’s emotional well-being through our recently introduced programme “Zones of Regulation”
We will be considering ways of engaging your support and involvement so that you are informed how your support and contributions can make a difference, and we hope to provide updates of our progress along the way. We will advise you of upcoming workshops or information events as we move through the school year. These may be virtual events or, more hopefully, meetings in school. We are also working closely with Friends of Tetherdown to identify ways to enable funds raised to support our overarching projects.
On that note, I would like to extend my thanks to the Friends of Tetherdown Committee for their continuing hard work. Many of the Summer term events were held remotely and enabled funds to continue to be raised for our children and school. Please do, therefore, join us on Saturday 18th September for our postponed Summer Fair 2021 which will take place outdoors on both playgrounds between 11.30 and 3.00pm. It promises to be a great opportunity to meet up in a safe space (outdoors), catch up with friends and have fun with the kids!
I hope you have had the opportunity to view the school website which has been completely rebuilt. Please use this as a source of information before calling the school to make enquiries. You can find us at www.tetherdownschool.org/. Also, don’t forget to check your ParentPay emails regularly for new information.
Finally - and quite worryingly - I would like to update you on the issues we are facing with the alleyway. Unfortunately, the owners of the existing property continue to park their car on the alleyway, despite regular requests not to by school, community neighbours and local councillors. We were horrified to watch only last week as one of the cars drove speedily down the alleyway at pick-up time. We have written on numerous occasions to Haringey Council for support on this issue, and we would appreciate your involvement. I should like to request that anyone with concerns raises them with their local councillor, Haringey Council Parking, Thames Water and anyone else who may be able to help. As a school we are struggling to get this issue resolved. Your support would be most appreciated.
Our revised risk assessment, break out management plan and Q&A are available on the school website for your information. We continue to work with Haringey Public Health in managing the covid situation, and we rely on your support to provide us with timely information and implementing any requests to manage according to the most up to date information.
I look forward to your continuing support over the coming year.
Kind regards
Tony Woodward
