Headteacher News
Dear Parents and Carers
Reflecting on this month, I didn't anticipate just how hectic it would be as a headteacher, with the challenges of budget setting and recruitment. Despite these demands, I'd love to share some of the magical moments I've witnessed at our school this month.
Y4 Residential Trip to Juniper Hall
A massive thank you to Ms Gillingham and all the staff who supported our children on their first residential trip to Juniper Hall. Please note that they participate in these trips out of goodwill of our staff, especially the 4.00am morning start with the children’s excitement to their first day. I was incredibly impressed with the children’s attitudes, resilience, and the way they made new friends and supported each other.
The activities were diverse and engaging, ranging from orienteering, and becoming climate change aware, to landscape painting and making herbal teas from plants around the centre. They also learnt how to make fires and appreciated the beauty of the South Downs. The excitement is already building amongst our Y3 children, who are looking forward to next year’s trip.
SATs for Y6
I would like to praise our Y6 children and their teachers for their amazing learning attitudes. The children will be tested on their knowledge in English and Maths, covering material learnt from Year 3 onwards. Their hard work and dedication throughout the year have been truly commendable, and we are confident they are well-prepared to showcase their knowledge and skills during these assessments.
A heartfelt thank you to the parents for their unwavering support of their children. Now, we turn our excitement to the upcoming end-of-year production of 'Oliver Twist,' which promises to be a wonderful celebration of our children' creative talents.
Welcome, Lucy, Our Therapy Dog
In addition to our recruitment updates, we are thrilled to welcome Lucy, our new therapy dog, to the Tetherdown team. Lucy will be supporting the social and emotional well-being of our children. She is currently in training under the close supervision of our school business manager, Michelle Moss. Starting this term, the children will be able to see Lucy around school on Fridays.
Thank you to Parents and FoT
Without your dedication and support, and despite the lack of government funding for school buildings, we were able to replace the surface around the climbing frame. As highlighted in our Catherine West news, a massive thank you for the sound and lighting provision. This upgrade will significantly impact our productions and boost our children's confidence in public speaking. We will also use the new sound system in the mornings to promote our Tetherdown Album, which is now on sale.
Events Week
This week, our school has been alive with a variety of STEAM projects. Activities included physical computing with Beebots and Microbits, enhancing students' coding and robotics skills. In Mathematics, students engaged in mathematics investigations, learnt about famous mathematicians, and participated in HSBC bank workshops on financial literacy.
We look forward to sharing these exciting activities with you at our STEAM Summer Concert Exhibition on Friday, 14th June.
