Headteacher News

Dear Parents and Carers
Our Newsletter this month is packed full of exciting reports on activities across the school – we hope you enjoy reading these with your child.
A big thank you to all those parents who completed our recent communications survey. We look forward to reporting our next steps with you in due course. Over the last few weeks, I have been aware, in some cases, of WhatsApp communications getting out of hand. This form of communication is meant to help support families with general day-to-day questions, managed by kind and supportive parents in the year group or class. It is not a forum for raising concerns or confrontation. Governors have been made aware that the school is not responsible for managing communication outside of school and parents are respectfully reminded to treat one another with kindness, courtesy and respect in all communications, including with school staff. Your support is much appreciated.
Looking ahead, parents of children in Year 2 and 6 will have received guidance on upcoming tests and how we will be supporting your child during this period. Please speak to your child’s class teacher should you have any concerns. It is a legal requirement that Year 6 children take part in the National Tests, unless there are specific reasons for absence, including illness. No child in Year 6 is authorised to take leave during the Test Week.
As you will be aware thousands of people around the world will be celebrating the King’s Coronation over the weekend of 6th – 8th May. School is closed on Monday 8th May. Prior to this the Friends of Tetherdown are organising a small celebratory event on Friday 5th May immediately after school. All children on this date will be dismissed from the Lower Playground (along the alleyway) so that you can join us for a variety of activities and refreshments and to hear of the school’s continuing plans for developing the outdoor learning spaces around school. This event will run from 3.30pm to 4.30pm, and we will be officially opening our lovely new climbing frame on the grass area. I hope you will be able to join us.
Sadly, we say farewell to Ms Sylvon Linton who has worked at Tetherdown for almost 9 years as a dinner lady, breakfast and after school club play worker. Ms Linton will be retiring at the end of the spring term. We would all like to wish her well for a happy and restful retirement and thank her for all her support over the years. She will be sadly missed.
I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a fantastic break over the Easter Holiday, and we look forward to seeing children back in school on Monday 17th April for the start of the summer term.
Kind regards
Tony Woodward
