Our philosophy is rooted in the happiness and safety of our children. Children learn best when they are happy, feel secure and supported and are able to engage with their learning. Developing a sense of belonging is crucial to the children’s learning journey.

We have an amazing team of staff who really understand how to inspire children’s curiosity, ignite their interest in their surroundings and immerse themselves in every area of the curriculum.  Our children are respectful, collaborative and supportive of their friends and this has a huge impact on the positive outcomes we achieve.  

We encourage independence and resilience and children take pride in their learning.  They are chatty, confident and enjoy being challenged.  Our staff encourage children’s creativity through a wonderful variety of lessons, activities and themes.  Our children love supporting one another and this is promoted through buddy systems, friendship circles and our superb programme of extra-curricular activities. 

We have strong relationships with our parents who work hard to support our approach.  Our Friends of Tetherdown fundraising group organise great activities throughout the year for children and families raising money to enhance children’s learning experiences. 

Tetherdown is a two form entry primary school in the heart of a warm and welcoming community.  On the edge of Highgate Woods, Cherry Tree Woods and Muswell Hill Parade, we have great community links.  Being close to East Finchley tube station enables us to access the wider community which brings inspiration and fun to our learning.
