Breaktime Snacks (morning)
Reception to Year 2
If your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 do not send in a snack for your child. The National Fruit scheme caters for these years and provides a healthy range of fruit and vegetables.
Year 3 to 6
For children in Year 3 to 6, we ask that you provide your child with a healthy mid-morning snack, which can include: fruit, rice cakes and/or breadsticks so they continue to eat a healthy snack each morning. Commercially prepared fruit alternatives are not allowed, e.g. fruit winders, fruit bars, etc. Sweets, chewing gum and crisps are not allowed.
Extracurricular Snacks (after school)
Snack at extracurricular clubs that are not Tetherdown after school club
If you provide a snack for your child at these clubs, only the following is permitted: a piece of fruit, vegetables, breadsticks or rice cakes. Commercially prepared fruit alternatives are not allowed, e.g. fruit winders, fruit bars, etc. Sweets, chewing gum and crisps are not allowed.
Snacks at Tetherdown After School Club
Children are provided with a fruit snack in the 3:30-4:30 session and then a light snack including a sandwich/wrap, fruit and raw vegetables in the 4:30-5/6 sessions. There is no need for children to bring an additional snack to this club and the club menu can be viewed on our Wraparound Care: After school club page on the school website.
Sharing Food
Children are not allowed to share food with a friend as many children suffer from allergic reactions to a range of foods. Please reinforce this point at home and remember, due to very serious allergies, which may result in anaphylactic shock, NO NUTS are allowed in school.
Birthday and Treats
For special occasions such as birthdays, we welcome book donations for the school library for all the children to enjoy, versus a sweet treat as we are a healthy eating school. Your child's name will be printed on a name plate at the front of the book to mark this occasion and your donation.
