Tetherdown's 2025 Peer Mentors have completed their training!

We are pleased to announce that Tetherdown’s new Peer Mentors have successfully completed their training!

We are pleased to announce that Tetherdown’s new Peer Mentors have successfully completed their training! This marks the second year of our Peer Mentoring (Emotion Coaching) program at our school, and we are excited to welcome a brand-new group of Year 5 and Year 6 students who started mentoring after the half-term break.

The children demonstrated incredible dedication, completing over four hours of training—some of which took place during their lunchtimes. They learnt essential life skills, including:

  1. Identifying emotions in themselves and others
  2. Validating emotions
  3. Practising empathy
  4. Troubleshooting resolutions together

These valuable skills will not only strengthen their own mental health but also enable them to support their peers effectively. Throughout the training, they showed great maturity, curiosity, and a deep understanding of emotional well-being.

To finalise their training, our Peer Mentors signed a contract committing to being a positive role model. As mentors, they will listen to their peers’ thoughts, concerns, and feelings without judgment, offering compassionate support while maintaining confidentiality. Ms Jovic and I were truly impressed by their grasp of safeguarding and their commitment to making a positive impact within our school community. Additionally, Peer Mentors will have weekly supervision with either Ms McMeakin or Ms Jovic.

We look forward to seeing our Peer Mentors in action and are confident that they will play a key role in fostering a supportive and empathetic environment at Tetherdown.
