Year 4 Welsh Harp Trip

The most exciting find was definitely the baby newt!

Year 4 had a fantastic day outdoors at the Welsh Harp Environmental Education Centre, where they engaged in hands-on science activities to classify different invertebrates. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring different micro-habitats, such as ponds, logs and trees, searching for fascinating minibeasts. After catching a variety of creatures, they looked more closely at classifying the insects based on shared characteristics and differences. Some of the more unusual creatures discovered included phantom midge larvae, also called glass-worms due to their transparent appearance, and water boatmen, aquatic insects known for their strong, paddle-like hind legs. But the most exciting find was definitely the baby newt!
