Year 5 - Environmentalist Talk
We even learnt that cow’s burps create methane which is surprisingly bad for the environment!
On the 27th of June, an environmentalist (who works at Middlesex University) came in to talk to us about climate change. She started by talking about Global warming and how there are lots of things that pollute our planet such as: petrol cars, factories and plastic. We even learnt that cow’s burps create methane which is surprisingly bad for the environment!
The main focus of the talk was about how flooding is a big problem right now – even in Muswell Hill! We were shown a picture of how the River Thames might look in years to come if we do not look after our planet. In this picture, the city centre was completely flooded with the area around the houses of parliament turned into empty bogs.
Overall, we have learnt that we should try as best as we can to save the environment and that we can reduce flooding if we try to preserve our trees, plants and by making rain gardens.
Y5 cannot wait to start planting their climate change garden in the schools' flower beds.
