Year 4 Step Back in Time with Hand-On Archaeology!

An exciting journey into the past, exploring archaeology and local Roman history.

Pupils looking at a Roman kilnY4 recently embarked on an exciting journey into the past, exploring archaeology and local Roman history. They discovered that in 1962, a survey at the edge of Highgate Wood uncovered Roman pottery fragments, sparking a 12-year excavation by archaeologists and volunteers. These digs revealed Roman kilns, pottery workshops and everyday household items. As part of our learning, a specialist archaeology practitioner led students in handling real artefacts from London's past. We then visited Highgate Wood to explore the Roman kiln exhibition and see first hand the landscape where ancient potters once worked.
