Tetherdown Triumphs: New Sound & Lighting System Unveiled by Catherine West, Labour MP!
Celebrating community and innovation at Tetherdown!
Tetherdown Primary School celebrated community and innovation with an extraordinary day on Friday, 19th April, as they welcomed Catherine West, Labour MP for Hornsey & Wood Green and Shadow Foreign Minister (Asia and the Pacific) for a special visit. The day was filled with discussions on democracy with the school council and the grand unveiling of the new, state-of-the-art sound and lighting system — a project brought to life by the tireless efforts of the Friends of Tetherdown, our Parents and Staff Association.
The new system has revitalised both the school hall and the playground, turning them into vibrant hubs for events that not only entertain but also educate. Children can now learn valuable technical skills and gain hands-on experience in event management.
The event also featured an inspiring assembly focused on the importance of democracy and leadership, aimed at motivating children to envision themselves in influential roles. The event was celebrated in an emotional moment when the youngest student at Tetherdown, Maya, presented Catherine West, MP with the ceremonial scissors to officially inaugurate the new system. The highlight of the day was the lively playground party, where the school council took charge of the music, creating an atmosphere of joy and community spirit.
Ms Ashraf, the head teacher, expressed deep appreciation for the parent community's vital contributions to this success, particularly amid the challenges posed by reduced government funding for the school. The day proved to be a testament to how collective efforts can enhance educational experiences, boost children’s confidence, and strengthen community ties, making Tetherdown, as quoted by Catherine West …” a true school of smiles ”.
